Biography:
Morgan was raised in Chicago and Mississippi and made his Broadway debut in the 1968 all-black revival of Hello Dolly. On screen from the seventies, he reached a peak of success in the late 80s as the suavely vicious pimp in Street Smart (1987).
Since attaining stardom, Freeman has played a number of soft speaking characters in Glory (1989), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991).
He costarred with Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven (1992) before making his directing debut on apartheid story Bopha! (1993).
More stardom came with his portrayal of a prison lifer in The Shawshank Redemption (1994), a policeman in Seven (1995), a former slave in Amistad (1997) and the president of the USA in Deep Impact (1998).
With the boxing drama Million Dollar Baby (2004 ), his reputation as one of Hollywood's hardest-working, most-respected actors was cemented in place.
In the 21th century the actor shows no signs of slowing down. Morgan is still active with comedies, two Batman films and a biopic about Nelson Mandela (Invictus, the third cooperation with Clint Eastwood).
His choice of roles, as well as his off-the-screen demeanor, have earned him respect all over the world.
